About the art

Remember Dolly Parton with the front page East Tennessee will never forget

One word says it all. The Knoxville News Sentinel devoted its Wednesday, August 26, 2026 front page to a single towering message, LOVE, with Dolly Parton standing inside the letters in a red and pink fringed stage dress, microphone in hand. The page carries the dates 1946 to 2026 and a simple line of tribute: "Legendary singer, songwriter, actress, businesswoman, philanthropist and best dang human being." Parton died on August 25, 2026, at age 80.

This reproduction preserves the way her hometown paper said goodbye. The text at the bottom reads: "The Great Smoky Mountains girl who became a worldwide icon never lost sight of her country roots. She died peacefully at 80." Generations of News Sentinel reporters and photographers covered Parton and Dollywood over the years, and this page is the culmination of that long East Tennessee relationship.
