The same man, twenty years apart, holding the same trophy. On the left, Rod Brind'Amour in 2006, captain's "C" on his chest, screaming as he lifts the Cup for the first time. On the right, June 2026, gray at the temples, behind the bench instead of on the ice, doing it all over again as the head coach who brought Carolina back to the top. The News & Observer ran both photos side by side for a reason. Nobody else in this franchise's history connects those two championships the way he does.
This front page from June 16, 2026 makes the whole arc of Hurricanes hockey fit on a single wall. "IT'S OURS...AGAIN!" runs across the bottom, and the two images do the rest.
