The Courier-Tribune, in partnership with the Richard Petty Museum and the Petty Family Foundation, is proud to present The King: 80 Years of a Racing Legend, a limited-edition hardcover book on the life and legacy of Richard Petty.

While working with the Petty Family and the Petty Family Foundation on potential projects, a desire to communicate a behind-the-scenes-look at Richard’s life — one that the public has never seen before, along with stories of “Growing Up Petty” — always came up. The Petty Family was excited to share never-before-seen personal photos from their family albums along with stories that extend from Level Cross, North Carolina, all across the country from racetrack to racetrack as we chronicled the life and times of life-long Randolph County resident Richard Petty. The Courier-Tribune was excited to work on putting together this special project and to help tell the story.

An excellent book. It is exactly what I hoped it would be. The story of the Petty family from patriarch Lee to Richard and to Kyle. Well written account of all of them and their accomplishments. A lot of excellent photographs. Anyone who is a fan of racing, especially NASCAR, and especially the Pettys will love it. My wife got it for me, and she could not have gotten me a better gift.
