Four major hurricanes swept across Florida and the Caribbean in six weeks the summer of 2004.
Photographers from The News-Press, based in Fort Myers, Fla., documented this historic period throughout, traveling the length of the state again and again.
Hurricane Charley was the first to strike. It made landfall in Lee County, home of The News-Press. Frances, Ivan and Jeanne then came along, battering the state time after time.
The images that were captured were powerful and poignant. They tell the stories of communities that were crushed and lives that were ruined.
They also, though, tell the stories of rebuilding and renewal.
The News-Press is proud to present this retrospective of our photographers’ best work.
