After the tremendous response to our first Portland Memories book, The Oregonian/OregonLive is proud to present a second volume focused on Portland in the 1940s.
"Portland Memories II: The 1940s" features nostalgic images of Portland during this eventful decade, including street scenes, education, public service, celebrations, and commerce. This book also showcases our city's role in the war effort, the creation and eventual flooding of Vanport, and many other images that capture a slice of Portland life in the 1940s.
I was impressed by the uniformly high quality of the photos. As a Portlander I could have used less shipyards and more Rose Festival. The Rose Festival is probably the most over photographed event in Portland, so there should be no shortage of shots available.
