I survived Hurricane Helene and now have PTSD as a result. My husband, little dog and myself had been without power and living deep in one of the hardest hit areas, had no idea we were about to be hit by Helene and a tornado, there were no sirens, nothing. We only suffered $22k in damages and lost 26 trees. We lived in Spruce Pine, NC at an elevation of 2600’ and were safe from flooding but many of the mountains actually collapsed. There was no way in or out. We were totally on our own. The book was accurate but I was disappointed that Spruce Pine didn’t get coverage. I saw good people that lost their lives floating in the river. They were at least due better respect than they got. That said, it is a beautiful book.
