McHenry County Memories: White Sox vs. White Sox

On September 9, 1914 -- 100 years ago yesterday -- the Chicago White Sox traveled to McHenry County to take on the semi-pro McHenry White Sox.

Chicago White Sox founding owner Charles Comiskey kept a summer home on the Fox River and sponsored the McHenry club. In a late-summer exhibition, McHenry's hometown nine proved no match for Hall of Famer Big Ed Walsh and the big league Sox as they fell 13-1 in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
