Beauty Draft at the Connor Hotel, Joplin

A Throwback Thursday photo from our upcoming book, Murwin Mosler's Joplin in the 1940s.

Camp Crowder soldiers drafted some local “beauties” for some variety shows at their camp. The musical comedy shows were designed to provide the servicemen with some fun, relaxation and entertainment. Leaders of the camp sent an S.O.S. to the Joplin Chamber of Commerce, Joplin Little Theatre, Ozark Playgrounds Association, Joplin Junior College and Fox Midwest Theaters for the “beauty draft.” Auditions were held at the Connor Hotel. The shows were produced and written by several Hollywood producers, directors and screen writers that were stationed at Camp Crowder. -- Photo by Murwin Mosler
